How We Got Here
The Evolution Years
Nimbl Vehicles launched in 2020 to manufacture a highly capable expedition truck camper, the Nimbl Evolution. Based on the XP Camper V1 with numerous refinements and improvements, it combined a monocoque composite habitat with a tough aluminum flatbed.
Both high-tech and handmade, building each Evolution was a many-layered process. Work spread out across multiple buildings in our first shop in Colfax, California, and involved composites, welding, carpentry, wiring, plumbing, truck outfitting, upholstery, and more.
Shifting Focus
We closed out production of the Evolution in early 2024, and shifted our operations towards all-purpose specialty vehicle service, repair, and install — applying the skill and capability of our team towards a wider expanse of custom vehicles, while continuing to provide service for existing campers, and taking on work outfitting Incident Command Vans for local backcountry Search & Rescue.
In late 2024, we packed up the shop in Colfax and moved to Grass Valley, California, bringing everything under a single roof.
Onward!
And that’s where we’re at now! The increased variety means we can flex our creativity and experience to help our customers with an extensive range of vehicle projects.
Right now, we’re working on everything from truck campers to expedition vehicles to UTVs to mobile command vehicles, learning continuously about the best ways to equip vehicles for challenging operations and long-distance travel. Our goal is to provide fabrication and install that will hold up to tough environments for years to come.
We're just outside the town of Grass Valley in the Sierra Nevada foothills, about an hour northeast of Sacramento, and not far from Truckee, Lake Tahoe, and the Tahoe National Forest.
It's beautiful out here, in a band of foothill woodland marked by California black oak, white fir, and ponderosa pine, broken occasionally by granite outcrops. Narrow roads and steep backcountry define local Search and Rescue operations and the vehicles we've equipped to support them.
Our current shop is a light industrial space, loaded up with tools, machines, and materials. Chances are we’ve got music playing, and several vehicle projects in progress on the shop floor.
If you're in the area and want to stop by the shop, feel free to get in touch!
