Heat is a core system.
Improve comfort and livability.
Travel to a wider range of environments.
Being too cold kinda sucks!
Heat is pretty important to the human body.
Having a good heating system in your adventure vehicle means having a comfortable place to recharge after long days on the trail. Getting solid rest and sleep keeps you fresh and focused, which is ultimately going to improve travel safety by reducing fatigue, and make your trip a better experience in general.
Here's why we like fuel-operated heaters:
High-efficiency operation.
Wide variety of install options
Quiet, compact, and powerful.
Approximate Fuel and Electricity Usage
Fuel consumption roughly 0.02 - 0.2 gallons per hour.
Diesel heaters are generally a little more efficient.
Power consumption under 130w and as low as 13w.
Both vary based on the heater size and output.
Go farther, go higher, and stay warm the whole way there.
There’s a lot of different models of heater with a lot of different capabilities. Here’s an approximate range you can expect to see, based on Webasto and Espar fuel-operated heater specs, and depending on the specific model.
Maximum heating capacity between 2-5kW
Automatic altitude adjustment up to 5,000-18,000ft
Most models can operate from -40ºF to 104ºF
In real terms, the range and versatility of available heaters means that whether you’re looking to heat a small habitat for weekend trips, or keep an expedition rig toasty in the arctic circle, we can find a unit that’s going to work for your needs.
Plenty of heat in a small package
Most fuel-operated air or water heaters are about the size of a shoebox, and can be installed internally or externally to save space. Smaller models will fit under the front seat of a van, with enough power to heat the space to a comfortable temperature in a wide range of conditions.
Fuel up fast and easy
We generally connect the heater directly to the vehicle fuel tank, for the simplicity and convenience of having a single fuel type and fill-up point. It saves space by eliminating the need for a dedicated tank, and the fuel draw remains very manageable.
Q&A
What’s your turnaround time like?
Pretty quick! Basic heater install takes about a day, with up to same-day service if we have the product + parts, or have a chance to get them in advance. We keep common parts on hand, and can get others in a day or two.
More complicated configurations like heating ducts or radiant heat will take longer, and if that’s something you’d like, submit a work request and we’ll get you an estimate.
Troubleshooting and repairs will vary depending on the issue. Some problems are resolvable within an hour or two, though!
We’re familiar with a lot of different units, love to troubleshoot, and want to get you back on the road as fast and easy as possible.
Are Webasto and Eberspächer (Espar) the only heater manufacturers you'll repair and install?
Nope! They’re what we would generally recommend for most vehicles, and we’re officially trained and authorized to install and repair their climate-control components, but we’re not locked in to using specific manufacturers or anything.
What's the difference between Webasto and Eberspächer (Espar)?
Broadly speaking, not a lot. Both companies are well-established, based in Germany, and offer a range of high-end air, water, and coolant heaters for a wide variety of applications.
The main differences are that Webasto heaters have seen widespread use in campers for longer, so there may be a wider backstock of parts available, while Espar heaters generally offer a comparatively greater altitude range.
Obviously, the specifics are going to differ between individual heater models, and we’d recommend checking out their websites to get an idea of what’s out there. We’re also very familiar with this stuff, and would be happy to help figure out what you need!
